The Challenge
In southwestern Ontario there is a sheet metal manufacturer that prides itself on creating two things: high-quality products and positive customer experiences. These ideals have made them a worldwide manufacturer of hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel, and galvanized steel products.
To create the best steel, the temperature must be managed, monitored, and maintained with precision throughout the entire process. Meaning, for a company committed to quality control like this one, temperature control is everything.
The Need
This sheet metal manufacturer had been using an older, contact-based method of temperature measurement which had become slow and unreliable, drastically impacting their output capabilities. They needed a new method that was accurate, fast, and easy to use.
The Wajax Solution
Accurate measurements are critical to the sheet metal industry, so this solution had to fit perfectly with our client’s needs. That’s why we turned to the experts at AMETEK Land, a global leader in non-Contact temperature measurement and long-standing Wajax partner. Together we found the perfect upgrade—a sophisticated and highly accurate contactless infrared linescanner.
Capable of taking 1000 readings a second, this infrared linescanner can create precise temperature profiles for entire steel sheets, edge to edge, in a fraction of the time. The AMETEK Land linescanner also comes equipped with state-of-the-art software that alerts the user of any cold spots and automatically logs all readings in a computer database.
To ensure everyone felt confident with the new system moving forward, we coordinated a virtual meeting between our client, AMETEK Land engineers, and our Wajax specialists. We went through installing the scanner, calibrating the software, and answered any questions they may have.
The Outcome
The AMETEK Land contactless linescanner was a huge success for this sheet metal manufacturer. They could now maintain a true temperature across the steel strip with pinpoint accuracy and ensure they had the proper temperature for down coiling.
Thanks to this upgrade in efficiency, they’re now fully capable of accelerating their steel product output, allowing them to take on more jobs and deliver an even higher level of quality.
